Rufford Abbey and Country Park

Rufford Abbey, the first Abbey was built around 1147

Looking through the old doors to the long drive that
used to be the main entrance to Rufford.

The 12th century Frater at the back of the Abbey has an exhibition giving an insight into the day to day lives of the Cistercian Monks that lived and worked there.

The Ice House, constructed in the 1820's
can be found in the Wilderness Woodland.

Нашла фотки Рафорда и всё. Меня просто не оторвать. Помню, как Робин говорит своей команде, что налоги шерифа повезут по дороге на Рафорд. И всё. Погибла. Каждое из этих названий ласкает слух и не отпускает.  Вот такая экскурсия получилась

Красивейшие фотографии, спасибо!   Я просто залюбовалась. Экскурсия в Ноттингемшир получилась очень интересная.

Origin/meaning :
The arms were officially recognised by the College of Arms in 1614 but it is not known how long they had been in use. They depict a rough, wooden cross in green rising out of the base of a red shield between two open crowns of gold with a similar crown around the lower limb of the cross.

The crest takes the form of a walled castle with three towers, all in their natural colours, standing upon a wreath of red and gold. The right hand tower bears a silver crescent and the left hand one a golden star. In heraldry, right and left are determined by the position of the bearer of the arms, not by the onlooker.

Granted as a crest in 1898, it incorporates the design of the present City of Nottingham Seal, which has been in use since the 15th century, but in the seal the crescent moon and star are shown above the towers, not on them.

The supporters of the shield are two royal stags, looking outwards and standing on rough broken branches. Each stag bears an open golden crown around its neck.

The motto Vivit Post Funera Virtus means virtue outlives death.

Thoresby Park, Nottinghamshire
 
Thoresby Park is situated in an area in Nottinghamshire known as the Dukeries, from the 17th century, Thoresby being originally owned by the Dukes of Kingston and the adjoining properties of Clumber Park owned by the Dukes of Newcastle and Welbeck owned by the Dukes of Portland.
Today Thoresby Park is a well known venue for the Sunday Market, usually from March till December, the Hall is now a luxury hotel.

The river which flows through the parkland has small weirs

Another bridge across the river leads back to the Hall

The river flows from Thoresby Lake fed by the river Meden and eventually re-joins the river Meden and river Maun.

Продолжим прогулку по садам ньюстедского аббатства.

Небольшая прогулка по шервудскому парку-ферме, можно так сказать. Здесь любят проводить время. Приезжают целыми семьями, прогуляться и посмотреть на животных. Кого же там можно увидеть???

По территории парка проходит маленькая железная дорога. Посетители могут так увидеть весь парк.

Вот такая вот фермерская экскурсия получилась в знакомых для РОС местах.
